Mid-Winter Conference: Tobago

Our District winter meeting in sunny Tobago was a highlight of my first term as Lieutenant Governor; a highlight that I will not soon forget.

In addition to experiencing some of the many splendors of the island, the comradeship shared by the attending Trustees was equaled only by the warm reception we received from Trinidad Lieutenant Governor Sam Rawlins and the Tobago team.

Past Governor Bill Stewart stands with Governor Joanne Murray and Lieutenant Governor Gary Levine at the District Meeting in Tobago.

The opportunity to sit at a conference table with representatives from 15 countries throughout Canada and the Caribbean, discussing ways and means of making our communities stronger, is one that few experience.

We celebrated our successes in curbing iodine deficiency throughout the world, and meeting our fundraising goal to build a youth shelter in Jamaica.

Unfortunately, in the world today, there is great need for the work of Kiwanis.

Lieutenant Governor Sam Rawlins spoke of HIV/Aids, telling us that the crisis is growing in the Caribbean and is now critical in Tobago.

He asked us to discuss this amongst our home clubs and suggested that our District might help. “Help,” Sam told us, “begins with education.”
