The Kiwanis Club of Owen Sound

Soccer Presentation

Three years ago the Owen Sound club made a $150,000 pledge to the Owen Sound Minor Soccer Association for facility upgrades.

Here, the third installment of $50,000 is made with the help of District Governor Joanne Murray at a recent reception.

More than 1,400 young people play soccer every year. Those numbers are expected to increase.

“Without the Kiwanis Soccer Complex we wouldn’t have had the  fields needed to accommodate the players.

Owen Sound President Clarke McLeod, together with Past Governor Joanne Murray and members of his club present a cheque for $50,000 to the Owen Sound Minor Soccer Association for facility upgrades.

We knew we needed more and better facilities,” explains Kiwanian Jim McManaman, former President of the Soccer Association.

Every year Kiwanians from the Owen Sound club meet at their Whispering Pines Campground to put in the kind of sweat equity that makes this club shine.

Here, Kiwanians Phil and Stu work on their Santa Claus Parade float. It may seem premature to think of Christmas during the warm days of a Georgian Bay summer but for these Elves of the North Christmas is a 365 day happening.

With a brush in hand, Kiwanian Stu paints trim on what will become the Santa Claus Parade float.

“Interclubs”, when members of one club attend meetings of another, are a great way to meet new people, make friends and extend Kiwanis fellowship. Here, four members of the Owen Sound club attend the Barrie Golden K 20th anniversary.

Lieutenant Governor Gary Levine along with Past President Paul Neville, Secretary Stew Andrew and Past Lieutenant Governor Al Kelly attend the Barrie Golden K's 20th Anniversary.
